The harbor views and blank slate of a new marine center draws ocean-research company Hefring Engineering to its new home in maritime Massachusetts.
When oceanographic R+D firm Hefring Engineering sought to establish a headquarters that fit its ocean-centric mission, a newly-built spec marine research building in Gloucester drew them in. Working closely with the client group, Ebbrell Architecture + Design focused in to highlight the company’s top priorities in the design, including:
- Ensuring that the main focal point of the high-bay research space allows for the company’s flagship product – an ocean research glider – to be on display in a way that directly connects it to the harbor views outside their front door.
- Incorporating glass partitions and flooring finish boundaries to create an open-concept mix of office, conference, and research space.
- Combining modern light fixture choices with a custom design for a branded entry fixture to create a “wow” factor for visitors.
- Strategically locating eye-catching wall murals evocative of water and the sea to help identify different spatial zones and to create visual interest upon entering the space.
